Your Van, RV or Camper is now ready hit the road. Where do you go, how long and why?

Are you going for a better climate? How about a view? Going to just a quiet place?

Are you just staying a day, week or a season?

A planned adventure works best for most, but do you just load up and hit the road?

Tell me how you do it.

We pick a couple of key destinations and book those spots after reviewing Google maps, site orientation, etc. Then we map our journey with a max of 200 miles on travel days and find places to stay and of interest around the 150- 200 mile mark. We will consider avoiding local traffic around major cities and either shorten a day travel or skirt the crowds with less direct routes to avoid commuter traffic times.

We plan to stay at least two nights every couple of travel days to look around and explore.

... And while on the road DW or I (she has more patience)will study the maps and Google to find places of interest.

I am "Old School" when it comes to trips. I have a paper map of every state on the Eastern side of the US. Since my wife has never seen a paper map, or traveled in the US, when we start talking about a road trip, I get the appropriate maps and tape them to the wall in the hall so that she can get a "visual" of what it will take to make the trip.
This is a Florida map on the wall for the trip that we took yesterday. (I don't do phones - but, I do use GPS in the car).

While I do use phone navigation my wife always has a map. Between the two it works out well.

In the past, I used just to start driving, and wherever I ended up was where I wanted to be.

Nowadays, with camping being so much more popular, it's more difficult to get into the state parks without a reservation, so I am learning to plan more.
