Many of us benefit from the "long" haulers on daily and overnight trips. Looking forward to hearing about others on cars/trucks/motorcycles with tips to improve the journey.
I should have added this one sooner. I have friends that do road trips and even carry a small tent on their bikes.

heeyyyyy CONGRATS on the Admin position, Les - of anyone, you are probably the most qualified to fill those shoes.

The best thing I added to my Harley was the specially fitted plastic spare gas can. Well, well worth it if you aren't familiar with the route you are taking. Running out of gas these days is not a good idea. (just too many crazies out there). I had a 1-Person tent that took up less space than a gallon jug.
Those in the 4-wheel rigs should consider some way to carry extra fuel and potable water if you are going to venture into parts of the country you are not familiar with.
(I guess I would stress: shelter, food/water and fuel for everyone).

Thanks. You are so right about watching fuel consumption. My trike gets well over 200 miles on a tank and plan fuel stops based on 180 miles. That's at least 3 to 4 hours in the saddle, depending on road, and need a leg stretch.

My brother has a Harley trike with the Lehman axle and his wife has a Gold Wing trike. When he wants to ride long distance, he rides the GW and he "lets" me ride his Harley. Going down in South Florida, some of the gas stations can be 30+ miles apart. Probably even more so in open country like Out West with you guys. Bathroom breaks are optional - Gas needs are not.
My brother and I are both "Flag Bikes" with the Patriot Guard Riders so we get to dress up on some occassions.
