The winter weather is soon to be making it's exit. It's time for mother nature to start waking up the landscape for our enjoyment.

Is your rig ready to carry you to your first spring destination? Do you have a routine of spring maintenance? What are your biggest hurdles to ensure safe travels?

This past week my son hauled a trailer from Texas to North Carolina and had a blowout. Fortunately all ended well, but could have been a challenging time.

When was the last time you checked your tires? Did you know all tires have a date code and tires start to deteriorate after 5 years and can be unsafe regardless of how they look.

Safe travels all.

I was going through the recommended maintenance for my van.

Good grief, the list is long. I'm almost tempted to take a beginner's mechanical class.

Maintenance seems like a thankless job till you are on the road in the middle of no where and you are broken down ruining your trip. Stuff breaks at bad times, best to be proactive.

New systems and unfamiliar directions/names/techniques can be very frustrating!

After we bought out MH on a FreightLiner chassis, DW and I attended a Camp Freightliner class. In the class we learned many of the ins and outs of the chassis, how to tow it properly in case of breakdown, maintenance schedules, how all the chassis systems worked (air, fuel, tranny, motor). It was very rewarding and taught us the language needed to communicate with mechanics and gave us the knowledge and confidence to ask the "why and how" questions during maintenance at a shop.

YES! I would highly recommended taking a course!!! And, if you can possibly find one that might include hands-on maintenance all the better!

The first time I lifted the hood of the Promaster, I was so confused because I couldn't figure out where everything was.

Never in a million years did I expect the battery to be under the seat.
